TRIMMING

It is said how the trimmed and also untrimmed Wheaten should look like in recent FCI standard.
It seems the decision lies just on the owner. The truth is, you will not see untrimmed Wheaten
in the show ring. It looks like the hairy ball with the flag on the tail. In the opposite trimmed dog is very elegant, short coupled, neck is elegant and head has clear proportion.
Every breeder has its own trimming style. It is not apposite to bath the dog before trimming,
it makes coat outstanding.

You need brush, wire comb, scissors to trim your dog, pair of tweezers to take the hairs out of the ears.

Finn is realy hairy, his coat grew up many months to realize the difference
between trimmed and untrimmed Wheaten. Before brushing.

We have to brush and comb the dog carefuly before trimming.

After brushing and combing.

Head study of combed untrimmed dog.

Begin with the head. Cut ear outline tightly to auricle. Cut the tip to round shape.

Cut the coat on the ears shortly, but preferably not with the machine. Ears are the only place
on Wheaten´s coat with real undercoat. Undercoat should be covered with coat, the lenth about 0,5 cm.

Trimmed ear. If the external ear canal is filled by hairs, pull them out with tweezers.

Coat between the ears cut shortly, lenth about 2 cms. When combed, this part is outstanding.

Coat over the eyes should not be longer than to the top of the nose. It should not be outstanding.
It seems streight from side look, the head is reactangle shaped from the front look, never round.

Coat under the ear towards lower jaw is trimmed shortly.

Change to the longer whisker is smooth.

The long whisker is desirable. Trim just tips.

The coat between the whisker and top of the sternum is cuted very shortly.
Lenth of the dog is optically shortened.

Change from ears to neck is smooth. Coat on the neck leave longer.

Coat on the shoulders is longer than on the neck. There are no outstanding hairs from the front look.

Coat on legs is plentiful. Just tips should be cuted.

Paws trim to round shape (front and also hind).

The top line between shoulder and tailset should be streight. Lenth between 3 to 5 cms.

Cut the side smoothly, to the round shape.

Coat on the bottom line makes the dog´s outline elegant. Hairs are shorter to the groins.

Coat on the groins is shorter than on the hind leg.

Back part of hind legs trim shortly. Angulation of the hind legs is more evident with short cut.

Coat on the hind legs copy the musculations, it does not outstand from the hind look.

Coat on the tail cut to the cone. Top is round.

We beated hairs! Little defects will be repaired after little break. We both earned it, Finn and me.

How do you like the result? Elegant outline of the wonderfuly coated Irish Wheaten is seen.

You can see used equipment and cuted hairs. I wish you lot of fun with trimming your Wheaten.
Do not be afraid of the result and try it. As you saw it is nothing difficult and the result is worth it.
Every dog needs little different procedure.
