PUPPY COAT

In the standard there is lot of said about coat in puppies. Wheaten belongs among late developing breeds, including his coat. The pups are born dark, often with black muzzle. Their coat is harsh and straight. After some time dark coat grow away, lighter wheaten colour is visible from the age of two months. Black tips of the hairs could be cut out. Coat of Irish type is developing very slowly, till two years of age, as it is said in standard. Coat in young dogs is sparse and till one year of age could be harsh.

You can see coat development nicely on the picture. Karla is on the left in 10 months, coat
is soft, but still sparse and short. Pamppy is in the middle, in four months the coat is still harsh, darker. Finn is on the right in four years. His coat is in the highest quality and condition, typical.

American coat is thicker, mostly streight, colour differs from white
to apricot, often with black muzzle. You could see it in the picture.
Do you find them being attractive? Are the pups more like teddy bears? American breeders took advantage of this amateur point of view. There are still lot of non standard dogs produced. People who are not informed about the coat types and the standard like them. The antient Irish breed can not be destroyed just for ignorance and different trends.
