Wheaten Darling
COAT TYPES

There are more coat types in Wheaten, as I mentioned in part History. Standard tells about
the wheaten colored coat, soft and silky, wavy or loosely curled. There is no undercoat. This type
of coat is said to be Irish, because it is described in original Irish standard. Irish standard is official standard for FCI countries.

Second coat type is called American or Anglo-american. This coat appeared for the first time
in the US and UK, non FCI countries. The FCI standard is not valid in those countries. New standard was set in those countries. When few first Wheatens were imported to the States, close inbreeding had begun. Wheatens from over seas look completely different. Their coat is no soft and silky, nor wavy, coat is straight. The silver shine is not visible. Some dogs also have undercoat. English coat is very similar, it is more wavy, but the hair is thicker. The coat
of American Wheaten is often white with black muzzle. Other colour than wheaten is not allowed. Using of this type of Wheatens is disaster for breeding in Europe including the Czech Republic. Those Wheatens have serious faults according to the standard and should not be used
for breeding. Unfortunately they often win on the shows. Do not the judges know the official standard? Or are they disregard the standard and judge just according to they feelings and taste? Those judges destroy the breed and serious breeders when prefering non standard Wheatens.
